The Story of Ben & Jaimie’s Wedding Day
The night before Ben & Jaimie wed a welcome breeze picked up after a run of 35 degree days. Almost as though the guests from Fremantle WA had brought with them the evening sea breeze. Ben, a bit traditional at heart had decided spending the night apart before the big day was the way it should be done. He kissed her goodnight & before leaving slipped into her hand a token of how long he wanted to be with her. A sparkling eternity ring.
You never sleep well when the other half of your bed is empty when it should be filled with the warmth of your partner. Eyelids eventually got heavy, minds switched off and when they woke the sun had risen behind a cloudy sky keeping the heat at bay. Today was the day to celebrate becoming their own family. Calm washed over both Ben & Jaimie, after 12 months of planning it was finally here. It’s a rare occasion that gets everyone together and they were going to make the most of it. Letting their hair down and simply enjoying the whole weekend was the plan before boarding a big jet plane to Noosa for their honeymoon.
Time was flying, each minute a blur into the next. Knowing it’s the marriage that counts and not the wedding they were assured that no matter what happened all would be just dandy. Smooth as silk the day unfolded as the formalities played out. A timely reminder carried by their nephews, it was Uncle Benny’s last chance to run. Laying eyes on his graceful wife to be there was no chance he was going anywhere, she was angelic. Sealing it with a quick gentle kiss and a sigh of relief it was done, Mr & Mrs Milliken from that day forward.
Holly strummed the guitar serenading the guests as the sun shone through the sheltering cover of the old twin plane trees at the Euroa Butter Factory. A spot of pims, game of croquet & a wave of congratulations saw the party begin. Ben had finally met his match in Jaimie after a stint as a grade cricketer in Melbourne so it was fitting a quick game was played at the local pitch with their closest pals. The very soil they stood on was where in the beginning of their relationship hours were spent on hot summer afternoons flirting with each other.
Walking into the reception to the ringing applause and sea of smiling faces, signaled that joy was present, their guests were ready to dance the night away. The drinks flowed because just like the sign at the bar stated no great story ever started with eating a salad. Tim the MC kept the laughs coming with his accounts of what is was to be a married man and made his own wife blush more than once.
Under the stars on a balmy evening the night reached it’s pinnacle. ‘I’ve had the time of my life’ rang out of the speakers as they ran hand in hand down an avenue of sparklers. Separating just long enough for Jaimie to surprise Ben with an impromptu leap into his arms just like in the movie the song was famous for.
He caught her, now and for always he would be the one to catch her, he would protect her, his wife, his love, his everything. His perfect match.
